8th May is a holiday for Libraries and Librarians. The global village, created from hundreds of thousands of public libraries becomes more and more integrated and digitalized. More and more electronic devices, e-books and audiobooks are in a contemporary public library. Thanks to UNESCO decisions Public Libraries, called sometimes the Temples of Knowledge become modern centres with the wide access to knowledge and information. The unrestricted access to the Internet and different sources of information cause that the librarians’ help with searching and selecting information is necessary. The contemporary library becomes the only navigator of the society in the ocean of knowledge.
According to recommendations of the UNESCO-IFLA the Public Library in Ursus has already become the local information-educational centre since 2002. The staff of the Library consists of librarians-educators, who speak a few foreign languages and know the system of the electronic library service very well, librarians-technicians, for whom there are no secrets in the world of the electronic magic, librarian-animators, who teach children and young people how to develop diverse skills in a creative way and teach adult how to use computers and how to get knowledge useful in developing their personal or professional interests.
